Skill points

Players acquire one skill point each time they level up. Skill points can be put into one of five skills: luck, strength, reflex, perception or charisma.

Depending on the player's style of gameplay and whether they are playing casually or competitively, there are several ways in which skill points can be distributed among the five skills.

It is possible to put a maximum of 10 points in any skill.

Note: Players cannot currently reset their skill points, so choose wisely.

Luck[]

"Increases the chance of catching rare and valuable fish"

Adding skill points in Luck increases the chances of catching rare/epic fish, creatures and monsters. Skill points in luck seemingly compound the chances of catching rarer fish when combined with Temporary Luck (clover) and/or Special Bait (to catch epic fish).

It is generally recommended to allot a few (but not all) points in Luck. Especially when combined with Temporary Luck and Special bait, this will allow the player to collect the rarer fish/creatures and monster from each destination faster. This particularly helps for competitive gameplay, for example, if the player is trying to collect all the rare/epic fish from each destination to place high in season rankings.

Strength[]

Reeling minigame

Reeling minigame

"Boosts your ability to reel in larger fish by providing greater power and control"

Adding points in Strength allows players to have slightly more control in the reeling minigame, which appears if the player hooks a rare/epic fish, creature, or monster. Larger fish and monsters, who usually have a moving "Perfect" zone, may present a harder challenge in the reeling minigame and the line may break if the player is not able to reel them in. With more points in Strength, the moving "Perfect" zone moves slightly slower and it is possible to reel the fish in slightly faster. If the player is struggling with reeling larger fish and monsters in, adding skill points in Strength may help.

Reflex[]

"Reflex attribute sharpens your senses, allowing you to react faster to the fish bite and increasing your chances of catching it"

When a fish is hooked, players have a brief window of time in which to tap in order to reel the fish in. This window of time is much smaller for some epic fish and monsters that are considered to be much harder to catch. If the player finds that the fish nibbles at the red bobber but gets away before they can reel it in, it may be worth adding skill points in Reflex to increase their chances of catching these rarer fish.

Side note: If players are playing on mobile and have vibration turned on in the settings, hooking fish causes the phone to vibrate, which provides an additional, non-visual method to alert players to a caught fish. It is also recommended to have vibration on (if available) to catch fish on time.

Perception[]

"Helps you detect fish more easily"

Adding one point in Perception unlocks the locations of white dots that indicate places where rare and epic fish can be found. These blinking white dots are different from the bubbles that indicate schools of fish.

Subsequent points in Perception unlock more locations of these white dots. Adding 3 points in Perception unlocks perception dots for monsters, and it may be easier to catch monsters using the dots if the daily location of the monster is known.

Charisma[]

"Help you negotiate better prices for your catches"

Points in charisma increase the amount of coins earned by selling items, and reduce flight costs to destinations by 5 Coin per trip. The exact percentage by which item value goes up is not precisely known, but it appears to be around 1 Coin per item. Charisma is not a recommended skill line to invest in, as there are many better ways to earn coins, such as passive earnings through the Aquarium.
