Players can choose to use one of several available fishing rods based on their fishing needs. Rods can initially be purchased at Broken Rod Anglers Store at the Home Island. If the player has built Anvil Ann Workbench on the Home Island and acquired blueprints to craft fishing rods, they can then also craft fishing rods using specific trash items from different destinations.

One rod can be equipped at any given time, and an additional 3 rods can be stored in the inventory. Rods take up 3 horizontal slots in the inventory panel, except for the Monster Hunter Rod and Pirate's Rod, which take up 4 slots.

Durability[]

Each rod has a fixed number of durability points. Catching various fish and items reduces the durability of the rod in slightly different ways:

  • Catching anything without a minigame (i.e. most common fish, common creatures and trash) reduces rod durability by 1.
  • Catching fish, creatures or monsters that have a minigame reduces rod durability by ~1.5.
  • Missing a bite does not affect rod durability.
  • A failed minigame reduces rod durability.

When a rod has about 7 durability points left, a small orange dot appears in the bottom right region of the rod icon, indicating that it is about to break. When the rod has 3 durability points left, the dot turns red, indicating that ~2 or 3 items can be caught before the rod finally breaks.
